There is one time in IIT Delhi when the students are ‘supposedly’ not busy in studies….that’s the cultural festival of the institute in September, called Rendezvous.…..and the funny thing….in 4 days of the event, the institute observes only one holiday, rest being saturday, sunday and a working day.
It was Thursday, the first day of the event, which is a working day.
Sharad suggested, “Guys, we have not missed more than 2 classes till now, attending classes at the time of Rendezvous would be ridiculous. I think we should bunk the classes and go out somewhere in the day and enjoy the event after that.”
“Good idea, man, I agree”, replied Paras.
“Yeah, but we have to come two hours before the event, I have to go for practice”, said Prerit.
[Prerit was selected for spectrum, the group dance competition, the first attraction of the festival. He was the only male fresher selected.]
“Fine guys, Let’s go for the movie Rock On, it must be a great movie”, said Prateek.
Everyone agreed and they left for PVR Saket for the movie.
“Damn!, no seats available till midnight, lets go to Select Citywalk, tickets may be available there.”, said Paras, after getting a negative output from the ticket counter.
Now they went to Select Citywalk, but the tickets were available for a show at 3pm which would end at a time not acceptable for Prerit.
“Goddamn! Let’s watch Wanted in PVR Saket, there’s a show at 1pm and the tickets would be much cheaper there”, said Sharad. [ Sharad always thought of saving money, a characteristic not mentioned previously]
And guess what! They got no auto rikshaw for PVR Saket and had to walk 2 km on foot, they got nothing good to eat as it was one of the most expensive malls of South Delhi, and to add more, Wanted was a normal action oriented south-indian sort of a movie with nothing good to spend 250 bucks on.
This much is enough for a person to get frustrated, but it was not all, the main part of the story was yet to come.
“Guys! I have to go for the practice, enjoy the event and get to the venue as early as possible”, said Prerit.
“Yeah, we’ll reach 1 hour before and fetch the front seats”, said Rahul.
As according to Prerit’s advice, SRP2 decided to reach the OAT (Open Air Theatre), the venue for the event early. They went half an hour before the start and they were the first ones to be at the OAT.
“I think we are too early, no one else has yet arrived”, said Prateek.
“Its fine, we don’t have to be in the queue and wait”, replied Rahul.
15 minutes before the event, it started raining, still there was no one present at the OAT except them. They waited for the rain to stop at the small closet meant for the sound team, had some photography [that was in fact the only considerable thing they did all the day] and finally after waiting for more than 1 hour, the event was announced postponed for the next day.
This time they fortunately didn’t miss the dinner in the hostel, but had it been, it would’ve been the most miserable day of their lives. Prerit was sad as he was so excited for the event, being a participant but he couldn’t help.
